One of the questions I frequently hear is: mister do you know how much longer is the pandemic? The restrictions imposed bring along limitations regarding travel, the suspicion of possibly interacting with a person infected with COVID 19, complications felt by many infected with the epidemic virus. We`ve assimilated the importance of washing hands, the use of masks as protection, we accepted social distancing. The words of the famous german philosopher Nietzsche come true in the current context and make us think: “ what doesn`t kill you, makes you stronger” according to this scenario, the virus will be convinced to abandon arms when required to fight those it failed to beat.
Yet, does it not feel like we are witnessing an anomaly? Until the rise of the pandemic, it was obviously a trend of spending time in the virtual realm. Outdoor travels became a retiree activity, sports were a school activity not a daily thought for young people. When this epidemic started we wanted to do that which most of us didn`t used to do. We missed offline gatherings, visiting our loved ones or field trips. While fighting alone the disease`s effects on the hospital bed surrounded by complicated medical devices, the sick ones had enough time to think about life. The struggle with seconds of our lives must be significantly motivated: the words written by a man that experienced every human delight wrote once: „If you become discouraged in the day of distress, Your strength will be meager”
Survival in a crisis situation erases the comfort of life lived until then.
So, life comes first.
What shall we do after this epidemic becomes history? Some say that they want restarting activities. Maybe we had unfinished projects because of the restrictions, or we would like to live our life without fear of infection.
How about a new perspective of the future?
Gratefulness regarding returning to normal would suppose clarifying some details unique to human thinking: why do we exist? What do we live for? What makes us truly happy? If we regain the same activities started before the start of the pandemic, this period would be only a “break”. To try other activities, means to “learn”. Depends on each of us what meaning we give this period of time.
